Hunter Mountain is located in the Northern Catskill Mountains. Hunter Mountain and our surrounding community together offer a variety of activities to make any time of the year exciting!

Our Scenic Skyride features our six-passenger Kaatskill Flyer detachable chairlift. This state-of-the-art lift will take you in comfort to the 3,200-foot summit of Hunter Mountain. From there, you can enjoy amazing views of the high peaks of the northern Catskills.

On a clear day, in the distance, you'll see the Berkshire Mountains of Massachusetts and the Green Mountains of Vermont beyond New York's beautiful Catskill Mountain peaks that surround you.

For the more adventurous, there are clearly marked NYS DEC (New York State Department of Environmental Conservation) hiking trails leading to the Hunter Mountain Fire Tower, the highest fire tower in New York State at 4,040 feet. Please allow at least 3 hours round trip for this moderate 4-mile hike. Hiking shoes are strongly recommended for hiking to the fire tower. Please note that groups larger than 20 people need to acquire a permit to hike on NY State land. See below for more information.

Hunter Mountain's 4x4 Off-Road Adventure is a one or two-day excursion offering the perfect mix of adventure and luxury. We'll start with a basic off-road “warm up,” followed by an off-road excursion on our remote west side logging trails complete with a stream crossing, mud pass, rock crawl, and log crawl. The highlight of the event is the exciting hill climb to our scenic 3200' summit. All features and obstacles are exciting enough to challenge and thrill beginner to intermediate levels of off-road enthusiasts.

The Hunter area makes a great "home base" for hiking the Catskills. Whether you're hiking with family or friends, the beautiful northern Catskills have the trails -- and the scenery -- for you.

The beauty of the Catskills is legendary. This rugged countryside is crisscrossed with miles and miles of trails, ranging from the well-maintained network in and around North-South Lake to the rugged trails accessing the high peaks. These are the trails.... the difficult, steep climbs to the weathered summits... that make hiking the Catskills so popular. Views like this are numerous, and for the most part, easily accessible.
